Annual Consulting Conclave

Annual Consulting Conclave, the annual flagship event of SIOM Students Consulting Club was held on 25th January, 2020 at the Campus of Symbiosis Institute of Operations Management. The riveting title theme for the conclave this year was “Consulting 2020: Focus on the firm of future”.

With an intriguing line-up of subthemes like Implementation Focused Consulting, Role of Consulting in VUCA World and Supply Chain Complexity & Differentiation Catalyzed by Technology, the Annual Consulting Conclave this year boasted of an interesting list of Eminent Consulting professionals across industries who brought their unique perspective about consulting in operations management and implementation on to the table.

The event started off with the most sacred tradition imbibed in the culture of SIOM, that was lighting the lamp in devotion to goddess Sarasvati to display the spark of learning adding value to humanity.

The Director of Symbiosis Institute of Operations Management, Dr. Vandana Sonwaney delivered a power-packed opening address and set the tone for a fascinating line-up of industry stalwarts.

S2C2 showcased to acknowledge the significance of S2C2 in actively bridging the gap between industry and institute through live projects which creates confluence of learning and mutual growth. The showcase ended with Live project presentation by Jenil Jain on Live project from Ezyhaul.

Then, the first keynote speaker, Dr. Shelja Jose, Head of Research, Vector Consulting Group, who gave an eye opening insights on how Implementation consulting is different from strategy consulting and set the tone for the event with an interesting take on the Life of Consultant. She got the audience aware with her take on people impacting results expectations from individual leadership styles and freedom ensuring policies and organization’s structured culture.

The second keynote speaker Mr. Aditya Malik is Director with the Consumer and Retail practice of Strategy& India, part of the PWC network shared his industrial experience on customer facing issues, Supply Chain Complexity & Differentiation Catalyzed by Technology

The Third keynote speaker Mr. Abhinav Mishra, Sr. VP, Alvarez & Marshal initiated the Keynote on: Role of Consulting in the VUCA explaining industry definition of VUCA in this dynamic era. The instability associated with risk and uncertainty along with market pressure to perform. Policies and other bottlenecks were also discussed.

Post the keynote speeches came the most awaited session, The case study competition with case solutions for “The Askeys”, an ice cream cone manufacturer. The case was developed to display different time zones and changing operations strategy with it. The jury for case study competition included our keynote speaker, Mr. Aditya Malik along with Dr. Bhavin Shah (Assistant Professor at SIOM).

Four finalist teams were selected to present on the Day of the event. Team PSYCo (Parag Pathak, Sankara Narayanan & Yash Gujrathi) from 18-20 batch was the winner of the competition following that team Titans (L Ramanathan & Vikas Rawat) form 18-20 batch was the runner up. Team I-cube (Vignesh Kumar, Glenda Clements & Pratik Gupta) from 19-21 Batch got a well-deserved Jury prize of 1000/- for their notable efforts.

The event was brought to an end by an inspiring and entertaining speech delivered by the Faculty Mentor – Dr. Kiran Karande, who spoke about the efforts of S2C2 junior committee members for setting new benchmarks with organizing of such a successful event. The team that relentlessly worked for days and nights to present this event in a very short duration of time in spite of exams and other academic commitments. A special kudos to 19-21 batch for being a wonderful audience and enjoying the learning outcomes of the event.
