Nasik Municipal Commissioner gives Public Service Operations Lessons at SIOM

Symbiosis Institute of Operations Management (SIOM) was privileged to host IAS officer Mr Tukaram Mundhe who is currently serving as the Municipal Commissioner of Nashik city, here, at its institute. SIOM, a college specializing in Operations Management, invited Mr Mundhe as part of its ongoing efforts to connect with professionals from various educational and professional backgrounds to share their firsthand experience on leadership building. Following a brief insight about SIOM, the session was opened by the director of the college Dr Vandana Sonawaney. Mr Mundhe, addressing the future batch of MBA graduates for the year 2017-19,enlightened the audience with recent developments happening in and around the city and also about the various projects that was undertaken by him. He talked extensively on the necessity for moral courage and fervent resolve for action based leadership, quoting that “Your Leadership should be such that it will eliminate the need of a leader in the future.’’ He continued on, taking the practical example of the Sholapur case that he handled during his tenure as the District Collector of Solapur. He explained what happens when a leader takes fair but tough decisions in public interest and that when dealing with such a situation one should be sensitive to the situation rather than being emotional. The talk ended on a high note with Mr Mundhe advising the students to focus not on the output, as they were taught, but rather on the outcome. This talk left the audience enriched with new lessons on leadership and a new found determination to set a benchmark with their performance ending in 2019.
