It is that time of the year when the air is full of gulal and chants of ‘Ganpati Bappa Morya!’, when the lights and put up and the stage is set, when it is time to bring Bappa home again.
SIOMites are a family and each festival is celebrated with great gusto. Keeping this spirit in mind, we celebrated Ganesh Chaturthi with the perfect blend of both: faith and fun. Falling on the 5th of September this year, the preparations for it had begun way in advance. There was an element of excitement in college and a feeling of nostalgia.
The run to the festival was marked with a number of activities which included making plans for the decoration and having a workshop for making eco-friendly Ganpatis. Students and staff alike participated in great numbers. On the eve of the festival, all the creative minds came together to put up a beautiful rangoli to welcome Bappa.
The college was vibrant and amidst dhols and cheers bappa was bought to college. The morning aarti was done at 11.00 with the whole college joining it. The students also took turns to volunteer for giving the prasad.
Days passed like grains of sand and soon it was time for visarjan. The aarti was done; prasad was given and amidst dhols and slogans of ‘Pudhchya Varshi Lavkar Ya’ bappa was taken for visarjan.
