Student Speak

A line that would summarize my life would be “Things work out best for those who make the best of how things work out” and I believe that only I can change my life. No one else can do it for me.

After graduating from Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology, Bhubaneswar (KIIT) in Electrical Engineering, I started my career with Shapoorji Pallonji& Co. Pvt. Ltd. I worked with them for nearly 3 years and gained valuable insights into various Operations of the world of construction.

However, it has been rightly said, “You have to say no to a lot of good things in order to be able to say yes to a lot of great things”. With that in mind and some understanding of various aspects of a business, I decided to pursue an MBA in Operations Management. After an intensive research, I concluded that Symbiosis Institute of Operations Management, Nashik was the place to be. In over twelve years, SIOM has become a niche business school in India for Operations Management. It’s curriculum is purely industry oriented ,well organised and structured with tools, certifications and six sigma projects.

Outside of my regular coursework, I am a member of the Alumni Committee. It has been a valuable experience which has given me confidence to organize events at large scale and has helped build lifetime professional networks.

I have always believed in learning and growing. Therefore, I chose Consulting as my career option. And I am thankful to SIOM for providing me with an opportunity to work for one of the BIG Fours in Consulting.

I have also found tremendous encouragement for few of my other talents in SIOM. Various cultural celebrations in SIOM gave me the platform to showcase my dancing talent. I have also represented SIOM at University level for Badminton. All I can say is presently I am working on a better version of myself. I am proud of the old one but I know I can do better 

After working for couple of years at Flipkart.com and Honda Cars, I decided to pursue an MBA from Symbiosis Institute of Operations Management. The reason was twofold – I wanted to gain a deeper understanding of the concepts related to operations and supply chain management which I had come across in my previous experience. Second, I wanted to have some guidance on how to put all the pieces of my previous experiences together to create my career path. SIOM ticked all the boxes but what finally convinced me was the industry oriented curriculum – presence of SAP modules, KMPG Six Sigma Green Belt program, CAPSTONE simulations and support to pursue the renowned APICS certifications.

Every day at SIOM offered new challenges and it tested me to the core. During my second year, apart from my regular courses in Supply Chain and Operations Strategy, I took a lot of electives in finance and marketing that got me out of my comfort zone. The students at SIOM come from across the nation with some quality work experience. Working, studying and sharing thoughts with all these people on the campus not only creates a great learning and friendship bond, but also a professional network which will last even after we leave the campus. I am a much more confident supply chain professional and would definitely use my learnings at SIOM to make an impact in the organisation I work hereafter.

“The two-year Operations Management course at SIOM is very satisfying, eventful and enjoyable. The award winning curriculum, though rigorous, brought out the best in me and unearthed my leadership qualities. I was a fresher student when entered, and this gave me a once-in-a-lifetime chance to interact with varied people from different backgrounds, specializations and industries enriching my breadth and depth of knowledge. There was a perfect balance of learning inside and outside the classroom, with full of options to explore and grow in the direction you desire. Studying operations at SIOM has widened my perspective and has given me an idea of the importance of Supply chain in today’s day and age.  Learning during my 1st year was fascinating as most of the course work is based on case studies, group discussions, knowledge sharing with peers and finally applying those learning’s to industry through internship at renowned companies. I can confidently claim that the MBA here provides you with a solid foundation to tackle complex supply chain/business problems. Thank you SIOM. I appreciate your embrace!! ”
