HR Summit 2016 - “HR Agility - The Game Changer in Dynamic Marketplace”


Allying to last year, Symbiosis Institute of Operations Management, Nasik successfully conducted the HR Summit 2016 at J.W. Marriott, Mumbai, Sahar. HR Summit is an annual conclave of SIOM; Nasik and has been a great success since the last few years. This summit is conducted to empower operations excellence in the field of Human Resources. It serves as a unique confluence of HR and Operations Management. The summit has featured several eminent personalities from the corporate world and also has witnessed interesting discussions from the industry stalwarts on various topics.

The theme for this year’s summit was “HR Agility - The Game Changer in Dynamic Marketplace”. The event was initiated by the honorable Director of SIOM, Dr. Vandana Sonawney by sharing a few words with the delegates and the students emphasizing the significance of agility in the business world today. After the Director’s address the session begun with a series of keynote speeches and panel discussions.

The first keynote speaker for the day was Mr.Paritosh Anand Group Head and VP - Analytics and Strategic Initiatives, Reliance Industries Limited. He brilliantly put into words the course to build an agile HR function. He conveyed the importance of disruptive innovations and the prime HR principles which act as the drivers to HR agility in the up-coming future. The second keynote speech was delivered by Ms. Aparna Sharma, Independent Director - TS Alloys, Ltd. Through her exalting speech she laid out the value of demonstrating agility at all stages and how agility which is still at the concept stage can be made realistic using the VUCA - volatility, uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity. She brought out that how 'Survival of the Fittest' is now 'Survival of the Agile'. Ms. Sharma is also the proud author of the book Reality Bytes - Role of HR in Today's World which was launched at the event.

The two keynote speeches were followed by an intriguing panel discussion by, Mr. Arokia Sagayraj, VP – HR Renault Nissan, Mr.Barttanu Das, Senior VP and Head, HR- Blue Dart, Mr. Abhay Kapoor, Senior HR Leader, Amazon India, Mr.Sutanu Chowdhary, SVP-HR, Max Hypermarket India Private Limited. The topic of the discussion was ‘Transforming Organisational Structure: The only response to HR Agility?’. The discussion was impertinently moderator by Mr. Deepak Yadav, Founder & Chief Busines Officer at CEO Lounge.

Mr. Joydeep Roy, Senior Director, HR – PricewaterhouseCoopers India, was the next keynote for the summit. He took up the topic as ‘HR Agility: To drive competitive edge’. He discussed how HR agility will help in making the business more predictable. Further how to see the human resources as a process and to focus more on individual performance rather than the relative performances and the effect of real time feedbacks.

The Chief Guest for the summit Mr. Shekhar Tiwari, Managing Director – Mumbai & Colombo Operations, Accenture exhilarated the audience with his address. He brought out the need of clarity of what we want today and the importance of focusing on the short term plans to stay update in the business. Followed by this Mr. Sachin Bhiwapurkar, Senior VP – HR India, Schindler India, Pvt.Ltd. articulated the role of HR in the supporting the business in today’s competitive world. He sighted customer focus, innovation, fast & responsiveness and an entrepreneurial outlook as the drivers of agility.

Post lunch session begun with a provoking panel discussion by a Director’s panel Mr. MVN Rao Group Head, Human Resources - L&T Hydrocarbon Engineering Limited, Mr. Harjeet Khanduja Vice President, Human Resources -Reliance Jio, Dr. S V Sharma Group Director, Program Planning and Evaluation Group, ISRO moderated by Mr. Deepak Yadav. The topic impertinently discussed was ‘Make in India - A challenge for HR? The panel discussion was followed by a keynote address by Mr. Aniruddha Khekale, Group Director – HR, Emerson Group. He conveyed the significance of focus, communication, engaging HR roles and reorganization in the today’s business.

The third panel discussion of the day was on the topic 'Leader's Role in responding to change with agility' by Ms. Reetu Rina, Global OD Practice Lead at Amdocs India, Mr Pavan Ramachand, Global Recruitment Manager, Rio Tinto, Mr Santosh Chalke, Sr.VP, Jet Airways, Mr Jitender Panitiar, Head HR, HealthKart.

Thus HR Summit 2016, marked an enthralling array of discussions rounding off to profound lineage of the various realms of HR agility.
